International Exchange of Science and Technology Professionals · Thematic Forum on Frontiers of High-Pressure Research Science under Extreme Conditions Ignites New Sparks in Shenzhen
On May 10-12, 2025, the International Exchange of Science and Technology Professionals · Thematic Forum on Frontiers of High-Pressure Research & the Nature Conference on Frontiers of High-Pressure Research - Science under Extreme Conditions (hereinafter referred to as “the thematic event”) successfully concluded in Shenzhen. Top experts worldwide gathered to explore the frontiers of material science under extreme conditions, catalyzing the development of the high-pressure field.
The thematic event was co-hosted by Nature, Nature Communications, Nature Physics, Nature Materials, Nature Geoscience, Communications Earth & Environment, Communications Materials, the Center for High Pressure Science & Technology Advanced Research (HPSTAR), Shanghai Advanced Research in Physical Sciences (SHARPS), and the University of Hong Kong, organized by the Shenzhen Center for International Exchange of Personnel (SCIEP), and co-organized by Southern University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Yanshan University, Sichuan University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hainan University, the University of Edinburgh, Pohang University of Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo, etc.
The thematic event featured various sessions, including opening ceremony, keynote speech, enterprise roadshow, and poster presentation. At the opening ceremony, Yang Wenge, Director of HPSTAR, Han Xiaodong, Acting Vice President of Southern University of Science and Technology and President of the Institute of Microscale Science and Technology of Materials, Gong Peng, Vice President of the University of Hong Kong, and Margherita Citroni, Editor-in-Chief of Materials Science and Physical Chemistry at Nature Communications, delivered respective speeches.
The keynote speech session brought together 23 experts in the high-pressure field from China, the UK, the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, and other countries, including Mao Heguang, Academician of the United States National Academy of Sciences, Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Foreign Academician of the Royal Society, and President of SHARPS,Tian Yongjun,Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Professor of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Yanshan University,Chrystele Sanloup, Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF), Fei Yingwei, Distinguished Scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science, Eugene Gregoryanz, Professor of the University of Edinburgh, Sun Liling, Condensed Matter Physicist, Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), and Researcher of HPSTAR, Wendy Mao, Professor of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Stanford University, Maxim Bykova, Professor of the Goethe University Frankfurt, and Rebecca Fischer, Associate Professor of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University. With diverse disciplinary backgrounds and unique research perspectives, they engaged in in-depth discussions on research directions in the high-pressure field, and shared cutting-edge insights and research achievements, inspiring more young scholars to dedicate themselves to this important scientific sector.
Concurrent with the thematic event, the enterprise roadshow was held, with introduction of Beijing Easy Materials Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Anvilsource Material Technology Co., Ltd., Jipa Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Sinomach Diamond (Henan) Co., Ltd., Suzhou Jizuan Nano Technology Co., Ltd., etc. This roadshow attracted numerous Chinese and foreign participants to engage in productive exchanges and explore potential collaboration opportunities.
The poster presentation session was equally impressive, showcasing nearly 60 posters from educational institutions including Nanjing University, Jilin University, Yanshan University, Ningbo University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Kyoto University, Goethe University Frankfurt, Sichuan University, Southern University of Science and Technology, HPSTAR, and China Academy of Engineering Physics. Following rigorous evaluation by an expert panel, four outstanding posters were selected to receive the Best Poster Award.
