Science Popularization Lecture Is Successfully Held at Shenzhen Bao'an Middle School

To broadly disseminate scientific knowledge, scientific thought, scientific methodology, and the scientific spirit among young students, and to enhance their scientific literacy, the Shenzhen Center for International Exchange of Personnel (SCIEP), in collaboration with the Senior Middle School Division of Shenzhen Bao'an Middle School (Group), held a science popularization lecture on the afternoon of June 16, 2026. The event invited Professor Jalel Ben-Othman from Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), France, as the keynote speaker, offering over 120 students and faculty members an immersive encounter with the allure of science and technology, and igniting their passion for scientific inquiry.
Professor Jalel Ben-Othman is a Full Professor at UPEC and a globally recognized scholar in the fields of wireless technologies and the Internet of Things. He has received numerous accolades from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society for his contributions to the field. During the lecture, he delivered a speech under the theme "Wireless Technology and Smart Cities", employing accessible language and vivid analogies to trace the historical evolution of wireless technologies, elucidate the foundational architecture of smart cities, and explore the intricacies of connectivity in daily life. He navigated from the generational advancements in mobile communications to the fundamental principles of wireless communication, with a particular focus on the core technologies of the Internet of Things and their pivotal role in urban development, thereby painting a clear and tangible picture of smart city evolution for the audience. Professor Jalel Ben-Othman concluded his speech with an inspiring message to the young attendees, encouraging them to fearlessly explore uncharted territories in science and technology, and to dedicate themselves to building smarter and more livable cities through knowledge and innovation.

The subsequent Q&A session received enthusiastic response from the audience. Students eagerly raised their hands and posed insightful questions, and Professor Jalel Ben-Othman answered them with patience and valuable advice. Faculty and students alike expressed that the interaction with this distinguished international scholar deepened their understanding of scientific exploration and significantly boosted their interest in research.
Representatives from the Shenzhen Bao'an Middle School (Group), including He Xiang, Executive Vice Principal; Zhang Huihuang, Director of the Scientific Research Office of the Senior Middle School Division; and Chen Juyun, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Senior Middle School Division, along with other outstanding faculty members, participated in the event.
During the event, Professor Jalel Ben-Othman had a campus tour, gaining insights into the school's educational philosophy and academic accomplishments. Students also took photographs with the professor, capturing a memorable moment of their scientific exploration journey.
